Max Azria’s Sparkling Blue Pool

Fashion designer Max Azria’s residence in Los Angeles is located in Holmby Hills, and spreads across three acres, one of the three rich neighborhoods. The home is bordered by Bel-Air and Beverly Hills. It has 22 bathrooms and a chandelier that is two-storey tall. Every piece of furniture and space produces a different ambiance, whether it is a sense of humor or a personal touch. At the entrance hallway, there are theatrical porter’s chairs that add a modern film-star spin on life, while in the bathroom you get to see the transparent swinging Bubble Chair, which is a 60s Eero Aarnio classic. Touches of monochrome Fornasetti sit beside Philippe Starck classics.

Also, there are five uniquely-built Moroccan, Japanese, French, English herb gardens, and a private glass-enclosed tennis court having its own viewing box is a walking distance. The mansion’s yard as well has a Moroccan style bathhouse with a spa, sauna and steam shower, a zero-edged swimming pool with fire pits and a bar, an outdoor dining room featuring two-sided fireplace, and two greenhouses, one of which was turned into a gym that is fully equipped.

The designer’s personal office is decorated with a domed gold-leaf ceiling and some rooms have unique lighting fixtures. Dressing spots in the master suite may be counted as bedrooms for their sheer size. The property was constructed in 1939 by architect Paul Williams, who constructed homes for Old Hollywood stars like Lucille Ball and Frank Sinatra. The fashion designer listed his home not long ago for $85 million; however, after 8 months he withdrew it from the market. Previously owned by famed novelist and TV writer Sidney Sheldon, Azaria purchased the mansion for $14.4million in 2005 before doing massive renovations that cost him $30million more.

Azria, age 66, established the famous BCBG Max Azria that has over 550 worldwide boutiques. The fashion mogul is as well chairman of BCBG Max Azria group, which is a global fashion house. The Azria residence functions similar to any other; everybody is drawn to the kitchen. ‘Each morning we gather at the breakfast spot for some food, orange juice and laughs to begin the day. Any lounging and eating spot is the heart of a home,’ Azria states. ‘It is an area the family gathers to meets to enjoy one another’s warmth and eat.’ This being California, there is an indoor/outdoor balance, which may be unfamiliar in northern Europe. ‘In the summer months, the heart of the home is certainly the pool.’ The designer’s wife, Lubov Azaria, who is also the chief creative officer of BCBG Max Azaria, was at the forefront in re-designing the couple’s mansion.

What is Different About the 2016 Dream Home?

Contrary to the previous Dream Homes, HGTV did not construct the Merritt Island home from scratch. Rather, they performed a full remodeling of an existing property. The 90’s-era, Mediterranean Revival-style property was totally demolished and remade in a Caribbean style, with the aim of linking the indoors with the breathtaking Dream Home outdoor areas. The restoration consisted of making an open floor plan that still had clearly designated sections including balconies to the master bedroom suite, kitchen, adding two new bathrooms, and living room, and dining room. Additionally, the roof was extended to make room for an outdoor kitchen/patio and all of the roofing, floors, windows, and insulation, was redone. One more thing which makes the 2016 Dream Home distinct from previous years is the design team. Jack Thomasson designed the previous 19 HGTV Dream Homes with Linda Woodrum creating the interior design. However, in 2016, the Dream Home took a different route with a new design team.
