Today we are covering the globe’s most amazing pools with waterfalls. From artificial to natural, residential to commercial. As a water feature, adding a waterfall to your pool’s design can result in increased home value and curb appeal. Waterfalls are not a one size fits all type of water feature! They come in many shapes, sizes and colors. They can be stacked, layered, flat, consisting of multi colored stones or made of cement to look like stone. Waterfalls can add white noise to the relaxing oasis you have created as well as acting like a humidifier. It is proven that running water brings calm, and relaxation to your backyard’s atmosphere should you choose to install one in your new pool.

Why Do Waterfalls Relax Us?

According to www.cogsci.stackexchange.com, there are many possible reasons! Different theoretical approaches to psychology will yield different explanations.

  • Evolutionary Psychology: Species evolving around water
  • Developmental Psychology: Prenatal development in womb
  • Sensory and Perception Psychology: White noise account
  • Behaviorism, specifically Classical Conditioning: We develop a learned association between the sound of water and relaxation.
  • A prediction based on a cognitive science approach is less clear in my opinion. It would likely stem from a combination of sensory arguments (white noise) and from neural networks of association.
