Whenever the topic of swimming pools is brought up, certain words are always used to describe them. Descriptors like fanciest, most elaborate, biggest, and even just best, are often thrown around when hotel pools are being talked about. However, one grouping that doesn’t often get a lot of attention is the craziest pools.
Pools that are irrational but beautiful, weird but stunning, or crazy but classy, these are the examples that we’ll be looking at. Get ready to say “wow!” and “what in the world?!” in the same sentence. As a matter of fact, some of these hotel pools may even leave you speechless!
Marina Bay Sands, Singapore
If you’re extremely scared of heights then you’ll probably want to not add this swimming pool to your list of ones that you would want to visit. There are a few towering hotel pools in the world; however, this swimming pool at the Marina Bay Sands is the one of the highest hotel pools in the world. With a 478 ft. (146 m) vanishing edge, it is also the longest elevated swimming pool in the world as well. At a height of 57 stories, this is definitely one of the craziest hotel pools in the world.
San Alfonso del Mar, Chile
As far as hotel pools go, this one at San Alfonso del Mar is a record holder. Holding over 66 million gallons of water and covering 20 acres, this is by far the largest swimming pool in the world. To put this into perspective, this pool is approximately the size of 20 Olympic sized pools. If you need more convincing about how crazy big this pool is, the hotel that owns it actually provides sailboats so that people can cruise around in it.
Construction of this giant pool is estimated at somewhere between US$1.5 billion and US$2 billion, and every year maintenance alone for it is estimated somewhere around US$4 million.
Golden Nugget, Las Vegas
The crazy pool complex at the Golden Nugget Las Vegas has earned itself the nickname “The Tank”. This nickname might seem a bit bland but once you see what puts this swimming pool on our crazy list, then you’ll realize the real meaning behind the name.
Priced at approximately $30 million dollars, the entire complex encompasses one of the most stunning hotel pool, luxury VIP cabanas, and a 200,000 gallon shark tank. That’s right, the large shark tank faces the pool, giving guests the ability to get extremely close to five species of shark. If that wasn’t thrilling enough, there is also an enclosed slide that goes right through the shark tank itself.
Holiday Inn Shanghai
Remember when we mentioned avoiding certain pools if you’re scared of heights, you’ll probably want to avoid this one too. This pool in Shanghai probably holds the title for a hotel pool that best incites acrophobia. More than a few hotel pools are high up in the air; however, this pool is 24 stories high and it has a glass bottom. Guests have been quoted saying that they felt exhilarated and thrilled like they were swimming in the sky or swimming in the air.
