One of the first questions that homeowners ask when they are building an inground swimming pool is how long does it take? Projecting the timeline on pool building varies, as there are many things that can delay the process.
The process of building a pool is delineated by certain steps that must be completed in a certain order. You won’t be able to move on to the next step until the first one is completed. Typically, a few weeks are spent on each step.
The type, size, and design you choose will determine how much time is spent on each step. A standard swimming pool project will take 2-3 months.
Once you sign a pool contract you have to get multiple different permits so the builders can legally build on your property. The permitting process alone can take up to five weeks!
Your point of contact will also meet with you on multiple occasions to go over the design. Things like how big you want it and how deep you want it come into play here. Then they have to scale it out.
The location of your swimming pool will be drawn, then excavation begins. Once your pool has been excavated, re-bar is put down to reinforce everything. This can typically take up to a two weeks.
Then we lay down the first layer of gunite. This is when it actually starts to look like a swimming pool. The gunite has to cure (or dry out) before we can continue. This can take up to a week or two. Landscaping is generally done while the gunite cures.
Once the gunite has cured, plaster is layered on top. This plaster is cured underwater for 2-3 days.
Once that’s complete, all the finishing touches are added. Your pool will be tested and inspected for anything we may have missed.
After that, she’s all yours!
