Why Do I Have Cloudy Pool Water?

There is a myriad of reasons that you may have cloudy pool water but let’s just look at three of the reasons.

  • #1 – Environment. Anything around your pool could cause it to be cloudy. We are talking trees, people, algae, weather, anything.
  • #2 – Pool Filter. If your filter system isn’t working the way that it should or if you are not running your filter on average 8 to 10 hours each day, you are going to have a high risk of cloudy pool water. If you do not keep your filter on, you are going to experience stagnant water and it is much more likely to become cloudy pool water.
  • #3 – Pool Chemicals. If you have a lot of pool chemicals this can cause you to have cloudy pool water. This could be high pH, high chlorine, high alkalinity or any other chemical that you have too much of.

Getting Rid of Your Cloudy Pool Water

If your cloudy pool water keeps coming you can use a pool clarifier that is going to greatly help you by causing “clots” of all of the dirt in your pool so that it can be caught by the filter instead of just going through the filter because it is too little. You could also try floc that will work similar to a clarifier but all of the “clots” are at the bottom instead of going through the filter. It will work overnight but you are not going to have a clean pool bottom.

You can get rid of the cloudy pool water with your filter system and bottom drains if you so choose but you will have to keep stirring up the water so that the dirt will come to the surface as much as possible.
