What is Different About the 2016 Dream Home?

Contrary to the previous Dream Homes, HGTV did not construct the Merritt Island home from scratch. Rather, they performed a full remodeling of an existing property.

The 90’s-era, Mediterranean Revival-style property was totally demolished and remade in a Caribbean style, with the aim of linking the indoors with the breathtaking Dream Home outdoor areas.

The restoration consisted of making an open floor plan that still had clearly designated sections including balconies to the master bedroom suite, kitchen, adding two new bathrooms, and living room, and dining room.

Additionally, the roof was extended to make room for an outdoor kitchen/patio and all of the roofing, floors, windows, and insulation, was redone.

One more thing which makes the 2016 Dream Home distinct from previous years is the design team.

Jack Thomasson designed the previous 19 HGTV Dream Homes with Linda Woodrum creating the interior design. However, in 2016, the Dream Home took a different route with a new design team.
