Around 5,000 years ago we find the first known pool. This “great bath” in Pakistan measures 39 feet long, 23 feet wide and 8 feet deep. The thin brick construction had gypsum plaster and a thick layer of tar to help retain its water.
Romans and Greeks on the other hand used the pool for different things. The wealthy among them thought of it as a status symbol and it was an essential element of society. This is when they began to be used for social events as well as bathing.
