Setting Up Your Own Backyard Garden
If you have been trying to think of a way to make your yard look amazing, a backyard garden will allow you to have a beautiful view and depending on the type of garden you make, it could also be a beautiful smell as well.
The thing that keeps most people from creating a backyard garden is they do not know where to get started. Here are some steps that will help you as you are moving forward.

#1 – Pick a Place & Plan
Before you get started, you need to figure out where you want to put your backyard garden and plan out which flowers or other plants you want to put in your garden. There are different types of gardens you can make. Maybe you want a vegetable garden, herb garden, flower garden or even a rock garden. If you want to grow flowers, are you going to do annuals that you have to replant each year or do you want to do perennials that have a shorter bloom but come back year after year? Start small and built out your garden as you feel comfortable.
#2 – Clear the Ground
Once you have the plan and place for the backyard garden, you need to get rid of the sod that is covering the area you want to plant the garden. If you need to get quick results then dig it out but it is easier to smother it with newspaper. A layer of five sheets usually is enough but if you have Bermudagrass or St. Augustine grass, you’re going to need to double it. Spread a 3-inch layer of compost over the newspaper and have patience. You are going to have to wait about four months for the compost and paper to decompose.

#3 – Putting the Plants in the Ground
Once you’ve finished the above points, you will be able to do any soil improvements needed and put the plants into the soil. After the plants are in the soil, you will need to maintain them which means watering and putting mulch on them.
