The pool and spa industry is really excited of late – and it’s all because of swim spa pools.
Swim spa pools aren’t new in the swimming pool market. They have actually been around for quite a long time.
For those not in-the-know, swim spa pools, are pool/spa machines that allows you to swim in place and exercise against water current. These can give you the best home workout. And, with split models, you can have a hot tub built in too. Play around, exercise and do everything in between even when you have limited space in your backyard.
Slow Start
The industry of swim spa spools has been around for a long time. Endless Pools, for instance, has been around for three decades. The company was recently acquired by Watkins Manufacturing, a leader in pool technology and innovation.
Watkins Manufacturing‘s President Steve Hammock explains: “It’s been a slow rise…. This thing’s been going on for quite awhile, but similar to hot tubs in general, I still think our industry is a well kept secret. When you consider the fact that everybody likes these products and very few people actually have them in real numbers compared to the potential out there — we’re only just getting started.”
Catching Up
The recent rise in popularity of swim spa pools owes to two demographics: triathletes and baby boomers.
Triathletes as a major target market is a no-brainer. After all, swimming is perhaps the hardest leg to train for. You want a pool that can replicate the conditions in the open sea.
Michael Phelps has this in mind when he came out with the official Michael Phelps line of swim spa pools. The Olympic champion has come up with an impressive line of pool products for triathletes. These products provide an edge for athletes who want to train regularly for long sustained open sea swims.
Endless Pools are Perfect for Rehabilitation
On the other end of the spectrum are the baby boomers. Premier Pools & Spas has sold thousands of swim spa pools and endless pools to retirees, catering to an increasing population of the 75 to 76 million aging baby boomers who wish to stay young and fit but have had hip replacements, bad backs, knee surgery and more. From their own research and the recommendation of physicians and physical therapists, they know that a swim spa is the absolute perfect place to rehabilitate from sports injuries and from the general wear and tear of daily life.
