Pool Guide Tips for Your Summer

Whether you’ve just gotten your pool or you’ve had it for a long time, it never hurts to get a few more pool tips so you can have the best summer ever.

Don’t empty your pool during the off season. You should never empty your pool, even if you live where it is really cold. This is of course, unless you have no other choice, for instance, if you have to do structural work on the pool and there is too much debris in the bottom of the pool to remove. Draining a pool can cause major problems like lifting out of the ground without the weight of the water being on it. Most people don’t even think about the fact that the pool could raise out of the ground because there is no water to hold it down. You do not want to have to deal with a total pool replacement.

You’ve got to clean that pool. Do a “chemical open” for your pool. This means putting the filtration system together, cleaning out the baskets, removing any plugs you put in when the pool was closed.

Top off the pool by giving it some more water with your garden hose or other water supply source. You should also check to see if the filter is clean before you turn it on. You can clean a cartridge filter by removing the cartridge and washing it with a hose. You may need to take it apart, clean it and put it back together. For those of you with sand filters, set the filter to backwash and this will clean the sand. Once it is done, put it back to the normal setting.

Have your water tested by a professional. There needs to be a certain chemical makeup with your pool so having the professionals check your pool and make sure everything is going properly is important. You do not want to fight with a pool that has not been taken care of properly. Having a professional look at it and give you the green light will put your mind at peace.
