Making Your Backyard Oasis Environmentally Friendly With Low Maintenance

Low Maintenance Pools Help Everyone

Most homeowners are always trying to find ways to make their property more environmentally friendly. Your very own backyard can be the overall key to becoming more friendly with the environment! There are several ways to make your backyard more conservative of all resources whether it be recycling water, using less chemicals, or even just wanting to create a low maintenance pool to save time.

Water Conservation

Finding ways to save water is an important factor when trying to create a low maintenance pool and be more environmentally friendly. Although California’s drought situation is becoming better, continuing to make smarter choices, like recycling water, can help prevent the drought from reaching that low point ever again. Especially living in the Palm Desert area, recycling water is a must. These actions can be taking by simply putting a waterfall into your pool or even a fountain. Just be sure that the water that comes out of the waterfall or fountain isn’t new water and that it is being recycled from the pool. Our team of experts can help you find the right design you want when redoing your backyard, helping you achieve that low maintenance pool you’ve always wanted.

Cutting Out the Grass

Another way to make your backyard more environmentally friendly as well as keeping it low maintenance is getting rid of the grass. Keeping your lawn and any other shrubbery maintained while living in the Palm Desert area can be a burden. Turning your property into a more desert landscape has benefits that help you and the environment at the same time! Switching your grass out for some stones or rocks will cut out the need for maintaining the lawn completely. This means there’s no longer a need for watering the grass or plants, saving your time from keeping the maintenance up and also saving water.

What is Your Opinion on Artificial Grass?

Artificial grass is another way to keep your backyard eco-friendly, as well as cutting down the maintenance costs. Artificial turf emphasizes the lifestyle for low maintenance as well as offering many benefits to the property owner. Turf completely takes out the need for any herbicides, pesticides, and chemical fertilizers that are needed when keeping real grass maintained. Along with taking out the need for extra chemicals, many, many hours are saved without having to mow or get rid of weeds. So if you aren’t a fan of synthetic grass but want your yard to be a little more environmentally friendly, you might want to consider changing your mind.

How To Keep Your Palm Springs Pool Serviced

Why Should You Clean Your Pool?

Keeping up to date on pool service is a necessity in order for everyone to enjoy. Cleaning the pool can help protect your equipment, prevent bacteria, prolong it’s life, and is a must when ensuring your comfort. With your pool staying properly maintained, you can also hold off on repairs for an extended amount of time if needed. Gunite pool services don’t require too much attention and can easily be maintained using the proper supplies and basic instructions.

Before You Begin

Make sure all items are removed from the pool, especially the smaller toys so they don’t get sucked into the underwater pool vacuum cleaner. A pool brush can be used to brush off any dirt or algae from the walls of the swimming pool. Brushing should be done from top to bottom, starting at the very top tile line and working your way down to the bottom. The surface of the pool should always be tended to as well by using a rake net. The rake net can be used to scoop all unwanted items out of the pool such as leaves, sticks, or grass, and can be a very handy tool when it comes to pool service. This process should be completed every day or every other day to ensure your pool’s health.

Deep Cleaning

If you feel your gunite pool needs a deep cleanse, then you need to drain the water out. If you backwash the filters and reverse the filters, they can help get rid of any dirt or sediment that might choke the water drainage. Once you open the drain valve of the pool, empty it to about 1/4th of the pool’s capacity. A mixture of muriatic acid and water is recommended for this stage of pool service. Baking soda and water can be used effectively as well, but the muriatic acid has a higher rate of dissolving tougher stains and residues.

Once you have the mixture ready and the pool drained to its specific level, you must use a tumbler to sprinkle the cleaning mix throughout the pool, and let it sit for about 15 minutes. After leaving it unattended, rinse the sides with a garden hose and continue brushing off the stains until it has all dissolved.

Filling the Pool Back Up

After completing the deep cleaning of your pool, filling it up is easy, yet time consuming. Make sure you have flipped your filters back to their original sides and that you have cleaned them, close the drain valve, and use a garden hose. Just point the garden hose into the pool and turn the valve on and let the water slowly fill back up.

If your home has multiple hose bibs, then use a second or even a third hose if you have one. These will help the process of filling your pool back up without taking any excess pressure away from the other hose. Also, using a hose that is 5/8″ in diameter can help speed things up a bit, too. Once you have completed filling the pool back up, you can return to your previous chlorine additives and chemicals to keep the pool healthy.

Best Way to Turn Your Palm Desert Pool Into an All Safe Pool

How to Make Your Pool an “All Safe Pool”

Adults should be aware of who is in the pool at all times to achieve an all safe pool and backyard. Children should not be allowed to swim without consent from a parent or an adult who knows how to swim while keeping an eye on them. With infants or toddlers, it is considered a requirement for a parent or guardian to be in the water with them, whereas older children can have a bit more freedom when swimming. With the older kids, a parent should always be aware when the children are in the pool, but don’t exactly have to be in the pool within arms length.

The Rules of the Pool

When turning your backyard oasis into a safety sanctuary, we recommend following these safety habits. One of the biggest things you can do when trying to achieve an all safe pool is to make sure there is no running or riding toys on the pool deck. By not running or riding around the pool, kids can ensure their safety. Also, diving should not be allowed if the pool is too shallow. Another big rule is keeping all electrical appliances away from the pool side as well as household toys. Blow-up pool toys and other pool toys are safely permitted for pool use.

Should You Invest in a Pool Fence?

Pool fences are a great investment for an all safe pool. Fences can keep children out of the pool if the parent is not watching or supervising and can be opened by the adult when the child wants to use the pool. The fence should be climb-resistant and at least four to five feet tall with no furniture or anything used to boost a child above the fence and over. If it is an above ground pool, then the ladder or steps should be removed from the pool when not in use or if there is no adult present.

Other Safety Precautions

Pool covers can help protect a child from an unsupervised pool. Covers must not have any water on top of them when put on, and must cover the entire pool so a child can’t slip under it. Pool alarms can also keep the pool safe. Pool alarms, or even door alarms can make a sound or alert an adult when someone is either exiting the house to the backyard where the pool is, or when someone is even getting in the pool. Enlisting your child in swimming lessons can ensure your child’s safety when in the pool, too. Swimming lessons are recommended for children of ages four and up. Lessons help expand the child’s limitations of being in the water, allowing them to understand what you can and can’t do in and around the pool. Install a pool cover with Premier Pools & Spas to achieve an all safe pool in your backyard.
