Located in the Mezquital Valley of Mexico, the Grutas de Tolantongo is a famous hot spring resort, in the State of Hidalgo, which is approximately 3 to 4 hours northeast of Mexico City. The holiday resort consists of heated pools close to the bottom of a steep box canyon and three hotel complexes. Located at the closed end of the canyon are two grottos, which draw in a large number of tourists annually.

The resort boasts volcanically-heated water, which cascades down in waterfalls along the walls of the canyon that may reach a height of 500 meters in some spots. Visitors get to enjoy the grottos as they are rained upon by warm water.
