Consider Adding Solar Pool Heaters to Save Energy

Whether you’re planning on building a new swimming pool, or updating your current pool, one thing we should take into consideration is cost-savings and energy efficiency.  Here at Premier Pools and Spas, we build with many factors in mind: design, style, recreation, quality construction, cost-savings, energy-efficiency and more.

Solar Pool Heaters can Help You Save

When we consider cost and energy savings, we’ve discussed how we can save water by building a pool, but one of the realities it that you will realize an increase in your energy bills by installing a swimming pool.  There are many options for saving with energy-efficient pumps, cleaners, etc., but one of the best investments you can make is a solar pool heater.   According to the US Department of Energy, “A solar pool heating system usually costs between $3,000 and $4,000 to buy and install. This provides a payback of between 1.5 and 7 years, depending on your local fuel costs. They also typically last longer than gas and heat pump pool heaters.”

A solar pool heating system works by pumping the water from your pool to a system on your roof, where the solar collectors heat water run through a pipe system (not unlike a radiator heating system in your home) and then returns the heated water to your pool.  It efficiently heats your water, but also can be used to cool your pool during the evening hours.

Some things to keep in mind when planning on adding solar pool heaters are your pump system, proximity to your roof (where the solar panels are typically placed), the average weather in your region, and more.  There are a lot of things to navigate when making a decision, and we are more than happy to help!  Our pool designers are well-versed in building your pool the most efficiently, and we can even design your pool to include a heater.  Contact us today to see how we can help you incorporate solar pool heaters into your swimming pool!
