If you own a pool, you know that cleaning and maintaining it is extremely important. A healthy and clean pool is necessary for your backyard oasis. Pools can get dirty, murky, and unsanitary in various ways. They can get dirty through swimmers and debris that gather on the surface. Algae and bacteria that form on the walls and floor of the pool can make it unsuitable for swimming. Only cleaning it frequently can keep it suitable for use.

Skimming and Brushing

Skimming removes floating debris on the pool. Leaves, twigs, hair, and dead bugs can be collected in a skimmer net. A pool brush helps to scrub the sides, steps, and ladders of the pool.

Vacuuming

A pool vacuum cleans the pool floor by picking up rocks, bird droppings, and other debris that sink into the pool.

Cleaning the Filters

Every pool comes with a filtration system to keep the water clean. And, there are different cleaning methods for different types of filters. It helps to maintain a clean pool for refreshing swims.

Testing the pH of the Water

The pH balance of the water should be maintained in the range of 7.2 to 7.6 to keep the water suitable for swimming.

Chlorine helps to sanitize pool water against algae, bacteria, and organic matters. But, chlorine works best with water pH levels between 7.2 – 7.6. It should be between 1 and 4 parts per million.

Shock Treatment

In this process, the amount of chlorine added to pool water is 2 to 3 times the normal dose amount. This treatment kills off excess bacteria and algae growth that might result from a high pool use, a heavy storm, and season of high temperatures.

How Often Does A Pool Need Cleaning?

Ideally, a pool needs cleaning every day. Skimming needs to be done daily or at least three times a week to keep the surface clean from rotting debris. Also, the debris may get into your filtration system and stop it from functioning properly.

The pool needs brushing twice a week to prevent the steps and sides from getting slippery with grime. It also reduces the chances of algae setting in. Once a week vacuuming is also required to keep dirt and debris off the pool floor.

Pool filters should be cleaned or backwashed a couple of times a year for adequate functioning. Also, testing the pH balance of the water should take place at least 3 times a week.

Chlorine dissipates faster with sunlight, high temperatures, and frequent use of the pool. So, add it to the water at least twice a week.

Chlorine Shock treatment is required once in every 3 weeks to stop algae and bacteria to get used to the normal chlorine amount in the water.

Whether you own an indoor or outdoor pool, keeping it clean and sanitized is not an easy task. And with busy schedules, it becomes very difficult to clean it several times a week, let alone daily. To have a clean pool and to save you time, you can have professional pool cleaners do it for you.
